\nI got Mistborn: The Final Empire in Tor.com’s ebook giveaway<\/a>. I hadn’t heard of
\nBrandon Sanderson<\/a> before, but I really liked this first book. I read through it
\nin about three or four days, which is pretty good for me because I have not had
\nthe time to just read for fun lately. I usually grab reading time on the subway
\nand whenever else I had a few spare minutes during the day.\n<\/p>\n

\nSo, what did I enjoy about the novel? It is a fantasy novel, which is on my
\nlist of fun genres. The characters were very memorable. Most importantly it
\nhas a self-consistent view of magic, that seems to have a logical and sensible
\nset of rules. The story also does not seem to be set up to be saved by a bunch
\nof kids who have unexplained powers; there are smart people behind the plans to
\nsave the world that know what they are doing. There is also a young kid in
\nthere, but it seems reasonable enough.\n<\/p>\n

\nAlso interesting is the set-up of the story and the “big evil”, which is not
\njust a bad guy doing bad things for the sake of it. Read the book. It is both
\nfun and interesting.\n<\/p>\n

\nSo much so that I’ve gone and bought the second book in the series. And plan to
\nbuy the third.\n<\/p>\n
