2024 Capcom Pro Tour Japan Super Premier Introduction

I made a thread on twitter about a video Capcom put out – two hours long – introducing the 2024 Japan Super Premier. I’ll collect that thread here into a blog post because I like to have my data in a place that I can control.

A few days back, Capcom had a show about the upcoming Japan Super Premier. It is a complete 2 hour produced show and looks just like a Japanese travel/food TV show, down to the sound effects, character graphics, and personalities joking around.

The hosts are Tomoaki Maeno, a Japanese voice actor, @xxBetty_, @kawanoChannn, and @maneater_dgr for the on-location session. The Super Premiere will be at Musashino Mori Central Sports Plaza (Map), about an hour out of Shinjuku near Tobitakyu Keikyu station in Chofu.

The location is a bit far out from where most people have been in Tokyo. The start location is near where I am, so not representative of where people usually stay.

They have the walking around town segment. The idea for the show is to show people what is in the area – the first stop is a massage place (Asian Relaxation Villa) and they try some of the services out. So if any Juri fans are looking for Juri main feet, here’s your chance.

Don’t forget Dogura in excruciating pain when they go to work on his feet.

They also introduce a local Chinese place, and a Western restaurant after that. It looks just like a Japanese TV variety travel/food show with close-ups of the food, people saying Oishii! and so on.

I really couldn’t get over how much this was like a Japanese Variety TV show. The segments were all well produced, and honestly no different than what you would see on a weekend mid-day show on Japanese TV. They did have segments with Kawano fighting people and other Street Fighter specific stuff, but Capcom really put together a nice package showing off some of the amenities around the location for the JP Premier. This was called episode #1, so we should see some more in the future. I hope they put together a short cut with English subtitles or something for the overseas crowd that might show up.

Very fun video!
